Our Process

Working with Observatory Solutions

Our process can be broken down into six phases: Pre-Design, Design Development, Product Ordering, Site Preparation, Installation & Testing, and Training.

Because observatories and telescopes are typically built to order, the overall process can take anywhere from several months to a year or more, depending on the scope and complexity of the project. For this reason, it is important to involve us as early as possible. Early coordination allows us to help plan the project, identify potential schedule considerations, and do our best to ensure that equipment delivery and installation align with your target completion date.

PHASE 1: PRE-DESIGN

We begin your project by gaining a clear understanding of your needs and goals, intended location, timeline, and budget. Much of this initial information gathering can be handled through phone calls and email. When appropriate, we may also conduct an initial site visit to evaluate existing conditions and identify factors that could affect the success of your project.

PHASE 2: DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

In this phase, we will recommend several observatory configurations for you to consider. Once a direction is selected, we will develop a detailed digital 3D model showing how your observatory will look and function when complete. This comprehensive model provides a view of the observatory both inside and out, including its structure, equipment, and overall integration.

We will also prepare a detailed cost estimate for your project. The total cost will depend on the observatory’s structural design, equipment and selected options, as well as the complexity of the final construction and integration. The estimate does not include the cost of land or site preparation.

Final project costs may also vary based on your geographic location, site conditions, and any additional services required, such as consulting for photovoltaic panels, solar power systems, or other site-specific needs.

PHASE 3: PRODUCT ORDERING

As an authorized dealer for leading premium astronomy brands, we offer the same retail pricing you’ll find on the manufacturers’ websites, along with the full manufacturer’s warranty.

Our strong relationships with manufacturers and vendors also give us direct access to product support and expertise, making it easier to quickly address any questions or issues that may arise before and after your purchase.

PHASE 4: SITE PREPARATION

Site preparation includes the work needed to get your property ready for the observatory. This work is typically completed by your local contractor and may include obtaining the necessary permits, preparing and pouring the foundation, and running utilities to the observatory site.

PHASE 5: INSTALLATION & TESTING

Completing the assembly and installation of your observatory is a complex process. Our team will be onsite to supervise your local construction crew and ensure the installation is completed to our specifications.

We install and configure all of the electrical components required to automatically open and operate your observatory. Before handing the observatory over to you, we conduct a comprehensive final systems test and complete the final polar alignment.

PHASE 6: TRAINING

We offer personalized training on the operation and maintenance of your observatory, including astrophotography and remote viewing, so you can confidently get the most from your new observatory.
