Ash Dome Options

Dome Automation: Dome observatory control system which enables the user to control the dome's azimuth rotation, upper and lower shutter open and close functions.

Contactor Bars (Slip Rings): A set of electrical contactors are fitted into the observatory dome skirt. A set of brush contacts then provides continuous power to the shutter drive system and shutter electronics mounted on the rotating dome. The operator is able to operate the shutter drive system without the need to connect and disconnect electrical power when turning the dome in azimuth.

Lower Shutter Automation: The lower shutter can powered by and electric motor or hydraulic system. This allows opening and closing the lower shutter for dome automation purposes.

Wide Aperture Width: The standard aperture width may be increased. The chart below shows the aperture widths available.

Manual Shutter Override: A manual shutter override device can be furnished that allows the observer to manually crank the upper shutter closed in the event of a power failure. The manual override is standard on all Model "M" units.
